YouTube Ads Run Inside The Google Ads Account You Already Have

Formats, targeting, and measurement handled by the one senior lead already running your search campaigns. Most clients start with footage they already own.
Komplex plans and runs YouTube advertising from Austin, Texas, with a presence in New York City and Reykjavik. We are a Google Partner and have run digital work for companies from local service businesses to global retail brands. YouTube campaigns are built inside Google Ads rather than bought separately, which means they share your conversion data, your audiences, and your reporting. The work covers format choice, targeting, creative direction, measurement, and the handoff to whatever page the click lands on. It sits inside our display and video advertising service.

YouTube Is Now The Biggest Television Channel In America, And It Is A Campaign Type

Both halves of that sentence matter and they pull in opposite directions. YouTube took the largest share of United States television viewing of any single service in April 2026. More than a billion hours a day are now watched on real televisions rather than phones. That is a television audience by any reasonable definition. But you do not buy it the way television is bought. You buy it in Google Ads, next to your search campaigns, using the same conversion tracking and the same audience lists.

Which Changes Who Should Be Running It

Agencies sell YouTube as a separate media discipline, and video production companies sell it as an excuse to make a film. Neither framing is much use to a company that already has a Google Ads account. The account is where the audiences live and where the conversion data sits. It is also where overlap with search and shopping either gets managed or quietly wastes money. Running video somewhere else, by someone else, means nobody is looking at the whole picture. So we run it inside the account, and we say plainly when the honest answer is that your budget is better spent on search.
Ask About Your Account

What YouTube Ads Management Covers

Eight lines of work. The fourth one is where most YouTube projects stall, and it is the one nobody asks about until the campaign is meant to launch.

Offer And Audience

Who the video is for and what it asks them to do. A video with no ask is a brand film, and it will report accordingly.

Format Selection

Skippable, non skippable, bumper, in feed, Shorts, or Masthead. Chosen from what the campaign has to achieve rather than from what looks impressive.

Targeting

Custom segments built from search behaviour, your own customer lists, life events, and placements. Broad targeting is used deliberately, not by default.

Footage And Edit

What you already own, cut into the lengths the formats need. This is the fastest and cheapest way into YouTube and most companies underestimate what they already have.

Campaign Build

Structure, bidding, exclusions, and frequency, built manually. Automated types get used where they earn a place beside the manual work.

Demand Gen

Google's combined video and feed campaign type, which absorbed the old video action campaigns. Useful for mid funnel, and never the default answer.

Measurement

View rate and completion in the early weeks, brand lift once impressions allow it, and a holdout where the budget supports one.

Landing Page Handoff

Where the click goes and whether that page was built for cold traffic. Usually it was not, and that is worth fixing before spending more.

Start With The Account And What You Have Shot

Read only access shows us what the account is already doing. A folder of existing footage tells us whether you can launch this month or need to film first.
THE FORMAT MATRIX

Six YouTube Formats, And The Job Each One Is Actually For

The wrong format is the most common reason a YouTube campaign disappoints. A fifteen second cut down of a brand film will not sell anything, and a six second bumper cannot explain anything.
FormatLength and behaviourFunnel stageWhat it is for and where it fails
Skippable in streamAny length, viewer can skip after five seconds, you pay on view or actionConsideration and conversionThe workhorse. It earns attention rather than assuming it, which means the first five seconds carry the whole campaign. Fails when the hook is a logo
Non skippable in streamUp to fifteen seconds, no skip, paid on impressionsAwarenessGuaranteed delivery of a short message. Fails when used for anything that needs explaining, and it can irritate the audience you are trying to warm
BumperSix seconds, no skipAwareness and reminderOne idea, once. Very good for reinforcing a message the audience has already met. Useless as a first introduction
In feed videoAppears in search results and alongside related videos, viewer chooses to clickConsiderationReaches people already looking for something adjacent. Fails on a weak thumbnail and title, which are doing most of the work here
ShortsVertical, short, in the Shorts feedAwareness and considerationCheap reach, and it needs vertical creative made for it. Fails when a horizontal ad is cropped and shipped
MastheadHomepage placement, reserved and bookedAwareness at scaleA large brand buy with a large minimum. Almost never the right answer for the companies we work with, and we will say so

THE FOOTAGE QUESTION

You Probably Do Not Need To Shoot Anything New

This is the question that stalls most YouTube plans, and the answer is usually better than people expect. Here is the honest split of who does what.

What We Edit From What You Own

Product footage, showroom video, event recordings, webinar clips, customer interviews, and anything sitting on a hard drive from a previous project. Cut to length, captioned, and made to work with the sound off.

What We Brief Out

When something new is needed, we write the brief, direct the work, and manage a contract video team we have used for years. You approve the brief before anyone shoots.

What We Do Not Do

We do not run a studio and we do not shoot original footage ourselves. If a project needs a production company, we will tell you that plainly rather than take it on and subcontract quietly.

Send Us What You Have Already Got

A shared folder is enough. We will tell you which formats it supports and what is missing.

What Does A YouTube Ads Agency Do?

A YouTube ads agency plans, builds, and manages paid video campaigns on YouTube. The work covers choosing formats, building audiences and targeting, directing or editing the creative, setting up campaigns and bidding, controlling frequency and exclusions, and measuring results. YouTube advertising is bought through Google Ads. It shares an account, conversion tracking, and audience lists with search and shopping campaigns rather than sitting in a separate platform.

It is a different job from YouTube channel management, which is about growing subscribers and organic views through content. Both are called YouTube marketing and they have almost nothing in common. Komplex does the advertising side from Austin, Texas. Search campaigns and wider account structure live on our Google Ads and paid search page, and the same senior lead holds both.

WHO RUNS YOUTUBE WITH US

YouTube Ads For Ecommerce, Software, Home And Kitchen, And Coaching

Video earns its place when the product needs showing or the idea needs explaining. Our accounts have covered footwear, skincare, software, telecom, and kitchens and home improvement.
See If We Fit
Ecommerce And DTC

Products that look better moving than sitting still. Short demonstrations outperform polished brand work almost every time, and the existing product footage usually covers it.

B2B And Software

The channel is for explaining a category, not for closing a deal. It works when the audience is truly narrow and fails when the targeting is a job title and a hope.

Home And Kitchen

Long decisions, showroom visits, and a purchase people want to see before they trust it. Video does work here that photography cannot.

Coaching And Education

The person is the product, which makes filming easy and qualification hard. The ad has to repel the wrong applicants as efficiently as it attracts the right ones.

THE NUMBERS

Where YouTube Actually Sits Now

Three figures that explain why YouTube stopped being a video site and became a television channel. Each carries its date.
Get A Quote
YouTube held the largest share of United States television viewing of any single service in April 2026, at 13.4 percent.
More than a billion hours of YouTube are watched on television screens every day.
US connected TV ad spend is forecast to rise about 14 percent during 2026, and a large share of that viewing happens on YouTube.
HOW WE WORK

Audience, Format, Build, Read

Four stages. The first two happen on a call and a document, and they decide whether the third one is worth doing.
  • Audience

Who we are trying to reach and how narrow that can get before the audience is too small to serve. Built from search behaviour and your own lists rather than demographics.

  • Format

Which of the six formats the goal and the footage can actually support. If nothing works without filming first, that gets said at this stage rather than after you have paid.

  • Build

Campaigns structured manually, with exclusions, capping, and bidding set at launch. Conversion tracking tested with a real action before spend starts.

  • Read

View rate and completion early, then the measurement standard agreed at the start. If the channel is adding nothing once it has had a fair run, expect us to raise it first.

PRICING

How We Price YouTube Ads Management

Media management is billed as a retainer plus a share of ad spend, sized after a conversation about the account. We are open to other formats where one fits better. On YouTube the thing that moves the number most is creative. A month spent editing six cut downs is not the same as a month running what is already live. Editing work is scoped separately and agreed before it starts.
There is a spend level below which YouTube cannot leave the learning phase and the data never becomes useful. We will tell you where that sits for your campaign before quoting, because a small budget spread across three formats produces nothing anyone can read.
Send the account and the footage. Back comes the scope, what the first month looks like, and what stays outside it.

Common Questions About YouTube Advertising

How much do YouTube ads cost?

You pay per view or per thousand impressions depending on the format, and the rate varies enormously by audience and country. Monthly budget is the more useful question than unit cost. A campaign spread too thin never leaves the learning phase and produces data nobody can read. We will tell you where that floor sits for your setup before quoting anything.

What is the minimum budget to run YouTube ads?

Lower than most people assume, and higher than the platform implies. There is no platform minimum, so you can technically start with very little and learn nothing. What matters is running one format, to one audience, for long enough to leave learning and gather enough views to read. We size that at the start rather than letting it drift.

Do I need a video produced before I can run YouTube ads?

Usually not. Most companies have more usable footage than they think: product shots, showroom video, event recordings, webinar clips, customer interviews. We edit what you own into the lengths the formats need. When something new is required, we write the brief and direct a contract video team. We do not shoot footage ourselves.

Is YouTube advertising part of Google Ads or separate?

Part of Google Ads. YouTube campaigns are built in the same account as your search and shopping campaigns, and they share conversion tracking, audience lists, and budgets. That is a practical advantage rather than a technicality, because it means overlap with search gets managed instead of ignored. Our paid search page covers the account side.

Can you edit footage we already have?

Yes, and it is where we would start. Cut existing material into six, fifteen, and thirty second versions, add captions, and make it work with the sound off. That gets a campaign live far faster than commissioning something new. It also tells you whether the channel works before you spend money on production.

What YouTube ad formats exist now?

Skippable in stream, non skippable in stream, bumper, in feed video, Shorts, and Masthead. The old video action campaigns have been folded into Demand Gen, and overlay ads are gone. The format matrix above sets out what each one is for and where each one fails, which matters more than the list itself.

What is Demand Gen and does it replace video campaigns?

Demand Gen is Google’s combined campaign type covering YouTube, Discover, and Gmail placements. It absorbed the old video action campaigns, so for some goals it is now the route rather than a choice. It is a tool we use where it earns a place, alongside manually structured campaigns. It is not our default and we will not describe it as automation doing the work for you.

How do you target on YouTube?

Custom segments built from what people search for, your own customer lists, in market and life event audiences, and specific placements or channels. Broad targeting with strong creative often beats narrow targeting with weak creative, which is counterintuitive and worth testing rather than assuming either way.

How do you measure YouTube results?

View rate and completion in the early weeks, because they tell you whether the creative is working. Then the standard agreed at the start: a brand lift study once there are enough impressions to reach significance, or a geo holdout at smaller spend. View through conversions do not carry our reporting. Ask and we will explain why.

How is this different from growing our YouTube channel?

Completely different work. Channel growth is organic: content, thumbnails, titles, publishing rhythm, subscribers. This is paid media buying, and it does not require you to have a channel with anything on it. Both get called YouTube marketing, which causes a lot of confusion when people are shopping for one and get quoted for the other.

Can we reach people watching YouTube on a television?

Yes, and it is a large share of viewing now. You can target connected television devices inside a video campaign. That changes what the creative should do, since nobody is clicking from a sofa. Our connected TV page covers that in full, including the budget level where it starts to make sense.

Who manages the account?

One senior lead owns the strategy, the build, the creative direction, and the reporting, and stays on the account throughout. Video editing goes to contract specialists we have used for years, under that lead. You will not be handed to someone junior after the first month.

What will you not do?

We will not shoot original footage. We will not run a campaign around a video we think is wrong for the format without saying so first. We also will not quote you a cost per view or a conversion rate. Those belong to somebody else’s campaign until yours has run.

Do you work with companies outside Austin, Texas?

Yes. Komplex is based in Austin with a presence in New York City and Reykjavik, and this work happens remotely by nature. Each country gets its own audiences, its own creative versions, and its own reading. One campaign with a wide geographic target tells you nothing.
