How We Run Paid Search Campaigns
-
Audit The Account
Review search terms, match types, bids, tracking, and landing pages, then prioritize each correction by how much budget it can reclaim.
-
Fix The Tracking
GA4 events, enhanced conversions, and offline conversion import should be set up first, ensuring that all decisions are based on actual data.
-
Rebuild And Launch
Rebuild the structure around your offers, include negative lists immediately, and establish bid targets based on your margins before any spending begins.
-
Test And Scale
Search term reviews, ad tests, and budget reallocations continue throughout the life of the account. Successful items receive additional spend, while poor performers are paused.

Common Questions About Paid Search
What does a paid search agency cost?
There are three common models: a flat monthly fee, a percentage of ad spend, or a retainer plus a smaller share of spend. Komplex most often works on a base retainer plus a share of ad spend, and we are open to other formats if one fits you better. The fee is set after the free audit, so you pay for the work your account needs. You see the total at your planned spend before you sign.
Is there a minimum ad spend?
There is no minimum, but Smart Bidding needs enough conversions to learn from. A management fee only makes sense once the account is big enough to move the numbers. If your spend is below that point, we will say so and suggest one focused campaign to start, then grow it from there.
Who owns the Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising accounts?
You do. Each account is established under your name using your billing information, and you have administrator privileges from the outset. Komplex operates via manager account access, which you may revoke whenever you choose. Should our relationship ever end, you retain the campaigns, history, conversion data, along with all audits and reports.
Do you require a long term contract?
No. After an initial term that we both agree on before any work starts, the engagement continues on a month-to-month basis. You may pause or end it with notice, and nothing is retained: the accounts, data, and reports belong to you. We prefer to earn the following month rather than secure it in advance.
What is included in a PPC audit?
A written review of your account structure, search terms and negatives, match types, bid strategy, conversion tracking, ads, and landing pages. You receive a scorecard, a prioritized list of fixes ranked by how much budget each one recovers, and a call to review it together. There is no cost, and you keep it whether or not we end up working together.
How do you set up conversion tracking?
We begin by tying GA4 events and Google Ads conversion actions to actual business results. Enhanced conversions rely on hashed first party data to restore conversions that browsers are unable to detect. In lead generation, offline conversion import sends closed deals from your CRM back into Google Ads, allowing Smart Bidding to optimize for revenue instead of form submissions. Consent Mode is set up for traffic from the EEA and the UK.
How do you use AI and automation without losing control?
Smart Bidding, broad match, and AI Max should be applied only where the conversion data is sufficient to back them up. The controls remain in place: negative keyword lists, brand exclusions, budget caps, and target CPA or ROAS based on your margins. Each automated expansion is then reviewed against the search term report, ensuring that automation operates within the plan instead of outside it.
How do AI Overviews and AI Mode affect paid search?
Google places Search and Shopping ads within AI Overviews and AI Mode, and your current campaigns qualify by default. In cases where an AI Overview is displayed, paid click-through rates dropped steeply in 2025 and have since recovered somewhat. Brands cited in an AI Overview receive nearly double the paid clicks of brands that are not cited. For that reason, we combine paid search with our AI search efforts.
Do you work with B2B, SaaS, and ecommerce companies?
Yes, and each one receives a distinct build. For B2B and SaaS accounts, the setup relies on offline conversion import and pipeline targets, along with LinkedIn profile targeting on Microsoft Advertising. Ecommerce accounts begin in Merchant Center and then separate brand terms from generic terms, using different ROAS targets for each. Local service businesses are configured with radius targeting, call tracking, and schedules aligned to their business hours. The standards remain identical across all of them.
Can you run international or multilingual campaigns?
Yes. Komplex is headquartered in Austin and also has operations in New York City and Reykjavik. We manage campaigns for clients across the US, the UK, Scandinavia, and Iceland. Every market receives separate campaigns, currency, search terms, and landing pages, while tracking is handled in accordance with that region’s consent rules.
Which search platforms should we advertise on?
Begin with the places your customers are already searching and where the cost per click still fits your margins. For most companies, that means Google Ads, prioritizing Search and then Shopping or Performance Max if you sell products. Microsoft Advertising typically comes next, offering a lower cost per click and LinkedIn profile targeting for B2B. Apple Search Ads are relevant only if you have an iOS app. The audit determines the sequence.
What makes Komplex different from a big PPC agency?
Senior-level work across each account. In a large agency, the pitch team seldom remains with the account; at Komplex, it does. We provide dependable tracking, along with SEO, CRO, and AI search all in one place. You manage the accounts, you observe every change, and there are no long contracts.
