Nobody Buys Maintenance Until Something Breaks, And By Then The Cheap Fix Has Expired

The Part Most Care Plans Do Not Mention
Three Plans, And An Honest Row About What Each One Leaves Out
| Essential | Standard | Managed | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who it suits | A brochure site that rarely changes and simply must not break | A marketing site that gets edited most months and carries real enquiry volume | A store, a booking system, or a site where downtime costs money the same day |
| Updates | Core and plugins, tested on staging, on a set monthly rhythm | The same, more frequently, plus a compatibility check before major releases | The same, plus a rehearsal for major platform releases before they ship |
| Backups | Daily, held off site, restore tested periodically | Daily, held off site, restore tested and documented | Daily with shorter retention gaps, and a restore rehearsal on a set schedule |
| Security | Firewall, scanning, and alerts | The same, plus plugin governance and a quarterly review of what is installed | The same, plus hardening review and monitoring of the integrations too |
| Small changes | A small monthly allowance for text and image edits | A larger allowance, including new pages built from existing templates | A larger allowance again, plus priority on anything blocking revenue |
| What is not included | New pages, design work, new features, plugin licences, hosting fees | Design work, new features, plugin licences, hosting fees | New features, custom development, plugin licences, hosting fees |
| Everything else | Quoted separately as a project, so a rebuild never arrives disguised as a maintenance invoice | Same | Same |

What Is A Website Care Plan, And How Is It Different From Hosting?
Hosting is the server your site sits on. A good managed host handles server security, server backups, and keeping the server software current. It does not update your plugins, test your forms, fix a broken layout, or notice that a theme has been abandoned by its developer. Hosting keeps the building standing; a care plan looks after what is inside it. You need both, and they are usually bought from different people. Komplex does not resell hosting.
Care For Service Businesses, Stores, B2B Sites, And Multi Location Brands
Check It, Stabilize It, Set The Rhythm, Report
-
Check It
Update status, plugin load, backup and staging setup, security posture, speed, forms, and what the markup emits. This is the free health check and it comes before any commitment.
-
Stabilize It
The urgent things first: missing backups, an abandoned plugin, a broken form, an update that has been deferred so long it now needs care to apply.
-
Set The Rhythm
Updates on a schedule, backups running and tested, monitoring live, and a single place for you to send change requests so nothing lives in somebody's inbox.
-
Report
A short monthly note covering what was updated, what was found, what was fixed, and what we suggest next. It says so when the answer is that nothing happened.

Ready To Find Out What Is Quietly Broken?
How We Price A Care Plan
Common Questions About Website Care Plans
What is a website care plan?
A monthly service that keeps a live website updated, backed up, secure, and working. It covers core and plugin updates tested before they go live and off site backups with a tested restore. Then security monitoring, uptime checks, an allowance of small content changes, and a monthly report. Website maintenance and website support plan are other names for the same thing.
What is included and what is not?
Included: updates, backups, security, monitoring, small text and image changes, speed checks, form and link testing, and reporting. Not included: new pages beyond the allowance, design work, new features, custom development, hosting fees, and plugin or app licences. Anything outside the plan gets quoted as a project first, so no invoice ever surprises you.
Is hosting included?
No, and that is deliberate. You buy hosting in your own name so nobody sits between you and your server. We will name a host, get it set up, and manage it as part of the plan. Most of our WordPress work sits on managed hosting, which handles the server layer while the care plan handles everything above it.
How fast do you respond when something breaks?
Faster for a site that takes payments than for a brochure site, and that difference is written into the plan rather than left vague. We do not publish a fixed response time, because a number that ignores what broke and when it broke is not a promise worth making. What we will do is tell you exactly what to expect before you sign.
Who does the work?
One senior lead owns the account and the decisions, and stays on it. Routine execution and any build work go to the same freelance developers, under that lead. You always know who to contact and it is always the same person.
Can I cancel monthly?
Yes, after a short initial period. Care plans run month to month and you can stop whenever you like. We hand back every account, the backup archive, and the documentation. A service you have to be trapped in is not a service anyone should buy.
How often do you back up the site?
Daily, held away from the server, with a restore tested rather than assumed. Most sites have backups nobody has ever tried to use, which is how a simple recovery becomes a bad week. On the larger plans the restore gets rehearsed on a set schedule.
What security monitoring is included?
A firewall, malware scanning, file change alerts, and a hardened configuration, plus the part most plans skip: knowing which plugins are still maintained. The large majority of WordPress vulnerabilities arrive through plugins, so knowing what is installed and why matters more than any single security tool.
What if an update breaks something?
That is why updates run on staging first with a backup taken beforehand. If something breaks on staging, we fix it there and you never see it. If something slips through to live, we roll back from the backup and then work out why. The alternative, which is not updating, does not make the problem go away.
Can I ask for small content changes?
Yes, that is part of the plan up to a monthly allowance. New team member, changed price, an extra paragraph, a swapped photo. The allowance exists so you stop saving up requests until they turn into a project, which is what happens when every change has to be quoted.
What reporting do I get?
A short monthly note in plain language: what was updated, what was found, what was fixed, and what we recommend next. It is a page, not a dashboard export, and it says so when nothing notable happened. Reports that pad a quiet month with charts waste everyone’s time.
Do you cover WooCommerce and Shopify stores?
Yes, and stores need more attention than brochure sites. On WooCommerce the risk is plugin conflicts at checkout. On Shopify the platform is looked after for you, so the work is theme updates, app governance, and catalog integrity. Both sit on the larger plans.
Who owns the site and the accounts?
You do. Hosting, domain, platform, plugin licences, and the backup archive all sit in your name, and we work through access you can remove at any time. If you leave, everything keeps working and nothing has to be untangled from us first.
Do you work with companies outside Austin, Texas?
Yes. Komplex is based in Austin with a presence in New York City and Reykjavik, and care work happens remotely by nature. Update windows are scheduled around your quietest hours whatever timezone those fall in.
